Gone Fishing
As a New Year resolution for 2025, and after 115 editions as of today, I’ve decided to pause the ‘Distillations’ blog indefinitely.
Let’s be clear: I love this weekly writing ritual. It’s a powerful mechanism to crystallize thought and bolster learnings. But I feel it’s time for a reprieve.
I’ve spent a few days processing one question in particular as part of a year-end reflection:
What's on my to-do list that was put together by the person I was yesterday?
I’ve come to realize this weekly blog routine fits in that category.
The primary consideration is time. With the passing of every new year, I become a little more conscious of how mercilessly the calendar marches on. I felt it more acutely this year.
The world is changing so rapidly, creating an infinitely expanding range of things to notice, learn, and experiment with. Each incremental hour of attention must be justified in that context.
I have many projects in mind for 2025: knowledge and skills to acquire, courses to create, personal and professional commitments to pursue. All of this demands a new level of prioritization.
The transience, the irreversibility, and the sanctity of time are all top of mind right now.
'Distillations’ will be back, hopefully with fresh vigor, and ideally upgraded in a way that makes it even more gratifying for me and the reader.
Until then, I’ve gone fishing.
